Fire Safety Study

The regulator-facing study tied to consent, licensing or MHF registration — and the single document most likely to hold your project up. We have written more than a thousand of them, including a great many that followed somebody else’s rejection.

Hazard identification

Every credible fire, explosion and toxic scenario for the materials and processes on site.

Consequence modelling

Heat flux, overpressure and dispersion contours run in Phast, EFFECTS or FLACS, with inputs shown.

Fire protection adequacy

Detection, suppression, water supply and hydrant coverage against the applicable standards.

Separation & segregation

Distances to boundaries, protected places and incompatible goods — demonstrated, not asserted.

Emergency response interface

What the responding brigade will find, where they will stand, and what they need to know.

Concise recommendations

Prioritised and actionable, written so the regulator can close them out rather than reopen them.

Each answers a different question, for a different audience — a regulator, an insurer, a brigade, or your own board. We will tell you honestly which one your condition is asking for.

Major Hazard Facility Fire Safety Study turnaround

Confidential MHF client · Altona, Victoria

Two previous consultants failed to deliver an acceptable Fire Safety Study. Both were rejected, 12 Provisional Improvement Notices were issued and a site shutdown was threatened.

The turning point: Fire Rescue Victoria recommended RSSM directly to the client.

The outcome

Approved on first submission by WorkSafe Victoria and Fire Rescue Victoria.

All 12 Provisional Improvement Notices resolved
Occupancy permit secured
Site operational, shutdown avoided

“A big thank you for rescuing us from a big black hole. We are looking forward to more business in future.”

Kaylee Watson, HSE Manager

The roadmap to a mature Safety Culture is “Continual Improvement”.
